FinalI've always viewed drawing the human body to be the most difficult subject to draw. There's a lot of intricate parts that if they don't look right throw everything off, because the human body is something that is fairly recognizable to the eye. Starting off drawing hands the ones i drew were really poor, the proportions and the sizing wasn't right and the shading didn't match up. When working on the face it took a lot of tries to get the different aspects of the face to look right, the hardest for me was the nose. Then came the challenge of putting all the facial features together into an actual face, which was also challenging, but after doing it over and over again it got a lot easier. Then came learning the full body, starting off by drawing a skeleton. It helped a lot with understanding the proportions of arms, legs, and the torso. Then the gesture drawings helped get the perfection out of my mind and just focus on the shapes and curves that i was seeing in a model and quickly scribbling it onto the paper. During the contour drawings it really showed how much the practice had paid off because while the figure wasn't person it certainly looked more like a person than other drawings i'd done so far. These were all stepping stones to help me work on my character sheet. Understanding the human figure helped so much when working on the character i had created, which is a humanoid alien. The drawings we had done on the human figure really helped me reach to create this alien because while it has a basic human appearance it is an alien so i had to tweak some of the structures. Such as the legs which were a challenge to make it appear alien, but to still have it look like it could carry the weight of a body, it's construction had to follow the laws of plausibility in a real world. If i had tried to do a character sheet the first day it wouldn't have been nearly as successful or as creative as the one i did now. Largely in part to due with how i understand the human figure now than when the semester first started. I created a character that could actually exist, whose body is constructed to certain specifics central to the place where it's species comes from and how it evolved. It makes me very happy that i was able to pen down a few lines and create a character that has potential to go further, into other illustrations, in more expansion of my learning of the human figure, maybe even into making a short comic strip.
